Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing (Hymns For Home and Church #1001)

  • How can the temple heal us?

Scripture of the Week for Come Follow Me 11/2 for Kids

Work on memorizing this scripture with your children during the week for Come Follow Me 11/2: Ezekiel 37:15–17

The word of the Lord came again unto me, saying,

Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions:

And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand.

Monday Devotional

Song

Thou Gracious God, Whose Mercy Lends (Hymns For Home and Church #1042)

Scripture

Ezekiel 1:28; 3:15; 33:21

Discussion

  • Ezekiel was a prophet in exile. Along with other Israelites, he had been captured and sent to Babylon several years before Jerusalem was finally destroyed.
  • In Jerusalem, Ezekiel would have been a priest serving in the temple. In Babylon, he was among “them of the captivity,” and he “sat where they sat” (Ezekiel 3:15), hundreds of miles from the temple and with little hope of returning to the beloved house of God.
  • Then one day Ezekiel had a vision. He saw “the glory of the Lord” (Ezekiel 1:28)—not back in the temple at Jerusalem but there in Babylon among the exiles. The wickedness in Jerusalem, he learned, had become so severe that God’s presence was no longer there.
  • What did the Lord tell Ezekiel about his responsibilities?
  • What words of comfort and encouragement did the Lord give?

Journal Entry

How can I share God’s words with others?

Activity

Tuesday Devotional

Song

Follow the Prophet (Children’s #110) last verse

Scripture

Ezekiel 3:1733:1–5

Discussion

  • Have the children pretend to hike around the room. As they do, call out warnings (like rivers to jump over, branches to duck under, snakes to avoid etc.)
  • As you read the verses, point to eyes, ears, and mouth when you read the words “watchman,” “hear,” and “mouth.”
  • These verses are symbols. What do you think they mean?
  • Have someone stand at the window like a watchman and say what is happening outside.
  • The living prophet is like a watchman, to warn people. What is he warning them about?
  • How can I follow the words of our living prophet?

Journal Entry

What things has the prophet today warned us about?

Activity

Use popsicle sticks to build a tower

Wednesday Devotional

Song

Help Me, Dear Father (Children’s #99)

Scripture

Ezekiel 33:10–19

Discussion

  • The Israelites wondered how they were supposed to live when in exile. What does the Lord tell them?
  • What do you think it means to “trust to [your] own righteousness”?
  • What would you say to someone who feels that the righteous person and the wicked person described in Ezekiel 33:12–19 are not being treated fairly?
  • How can this apply to us? Do we have times we feel that things are not fair?
  • What phrases do you find in these verses that help you understand what it means to repent?

Journal Entry

What can I do next time I think things are unfair?

Activity

Ezekiel flap book

Thursday Devotional

Song

The Lord’s My Shepherd (Hymns For Home and Church #1038)

Scripture

Ezekiel 34

Discussion

  • The Lord refers to leaders of His people as “shepherds.”
  • As you read, consider what this title suggests to you about what it means to be a leader.
  • Who are the “sheep” the Lord wants you to feed?
  • How can you follow the example the Savior sets as our shepherd?

Journal Entry

How can I be a shepherd today?

Activity

Friday Devotional

Song

The Eighth Article of Faith (Children’s #127)

Scripture

Ezekiel 37:1-23

Discussion

  • Ezekiel prophecies about the gathering of Israel in our day with two visions that had symbols.
  • The first symbol is dead bones being brought to to life. What do you think this means?
  • The second symbol involves two sticks – see this picture. The first stick of Judah is the Bible, and the stick of Joseph is the Book of Mormon (since Lehi was descended from Joseph).
  • What do these verses teach you about the role of the scriptures in the gathering of Israel?

Journal Entry

How have the Book of Mormon and Bible worked together in my life?
