Monday Devotional

Song

The Books in the Old Testament (Children’s #114)

Scripture

3 Nephi 23:1–32 Nephi 25:1–81 Nephi 19:23

Discussion

  • Isaiah is the most-quote prophet, even by the Savior, because he prophesied a lot of the Savior’s life and also the Second Coming.
  • Isaiah can be difficult for us to understand because he uses a lot of symbols and metaphors with places and people that we don’t know.
  • But the Savior and Nephi both spoke of how important it is for us to read the words of Isaiah.
  • Here are some tips to help with Isaiah:
    • Think about what the metaphors could mean.
    • Ask “What did I learn about Christ?”
    • Look for topics that apply to us in the last days
    • Use footnotes, the Bible Dictionary, etc.

Friday Devotional

Song

Mary’s Lullaby (Children’s #44)

Scripture

Isaiah 7:149:6–7

Discussion

  • Talk about some of the titles of people, like president, bishop, or teacher.
  • What do these titles tell you about these people?
  • What are some of the titles of Jesus Christ in these verses? What does each title tell us about Him?
  • What did Isaiah know about Jesus before He was born?
  • Early in Isaiah’s ministry, the Kingdom of Israel (also called Ephraim) formed an alliance with Syria to defend itself against Assyria.
  • Israel and Syria wanted to force Ahaz, the king of Judah, to join their alliance. But Isaiah prophesied that the alliance would fail and counseled Ahaz to trust in the Lord.
  • As Isaiah counseled Ahaz, he made several well-known prophecies. While it’s not completely clear what these prophecies meant in Ahaz’s time, they clearly apply to Jesus Christ.
