Family Home Evening for Come Follow Me 1/18 for Kids
Song
When I Am Baptized (Children’s #103)
Scripture
Matthew 3:13–17; Mark 1:1–11; Luke 3:2–18
Lesson
- What does baptism mean?
- Wash away sins
- Promise to try to be like Jesus and help others
- How to we know if Mommy and Daddy are happy with us? What do they do?
- How do we know if Heavenly Father is happy with us? How does the Holy Ghost tell us? Read Galatians 5:22
Activity
Wash dirty stones together (crystals or pretty colors are good). Use as analogy to how baptism and repentance wash us clean from our sins.
Treat
Fruit salad, fruit kabobs, or anything else with fruit to represent the fruits of the Spirit.
Scripture of the Week for Come Follow Me 1/18 for Kids
Work on memorizing this scripture with your children during the week for Come Follow Me 1/18: Matthew 3:16–17
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Devotionals for Come Follow Me 1/18 for Kids
Remember that these are guidelines for you to use in your daily Come, Follow Me 1/18 devotionals with your children! Please don’t feel as though you have to use every single question, journal entry, or activity. Just make sure you look at the activity in advance so you can gather any materials they may require.
Here is a general outline for each devotional for Come Follow Me 1/18:
- Start by singing the song together and saying a prayer.
- Read the scripture together, then your family can have a discussion using the questions/comments provided.
- Copy the journal entries into a spiral notebook. The child or the parent can write the question at the top, after which the child can write or draw an answer.
- Have fun together doing the activity as a family!
Modifications for older children for Come, Follow Me 1/18 daily devotionals:
- Explore the footnotes for each of the scriptures listed in Come, Follow Me 1/18.
- Ask additional discussion questions found in the Personal Study section of Come, Follow Me – For Home and Church: New Testament 2027 for Come Follow Me 1/18.
- Instead of answering the journal entry with a drawing, you can create a study journal (a simple spiral notebook will work) to answer the question with a few sentences or paragraphs, depending on the child’s age.

- They are just one in purpose – like how Mommy and Daddy have the same rules for the kids. If one says no, you can’t go ask the other parent.

- After Jesus was baptized, the Holy Ghost came on Him like a dove. This is called confirmation.
- We all get confirmed after we are baptized in a special blessings, and that gives us the gift of the Holy Ghost.
- How is the Holy Ghost like a fire? Like a dove?
- What are some other examples that describe how the Holy Ghost can make us feel? (Comforter, compass and map, etc.)

Sunday Ideas for Kids for Come Follow Me 1/18
Use Sundays for a time of reflection; share what you discussed that day in each of your classes. Did you learn anything new or hear a different perspective about what you studied this week?
If you went to a class that did not use the Come, Follow Me 1/18 Manual, then share what stood out to you the most in your class.
Take a few minutes to talk about what parts of Sacrament Meeting you felt like were meant for you.
