The Church of Jesus Christ (Children’s #77)
Scripture
Discussion
- What does it mean to be a treasure to the Lord?
- What does “peculiar” mean? Does it mean we are weird?
- President Russell M. Nelson offered one explanation of this phrase: “In the Old Testament, the Hebrew term from which peculiar was translated is segullah, which means ‘valued property,’ or ‘treasure.’ … For us to be identified by servants of the Lord as his peculiar people is a compliment of the highest order.”
- The Lord told Moses that the children of Israel needed to be prepared before they could “meet with God” and make covenants with Him.
- What are things we do to meet with God? (sacrament, temple, Church attendance, prayers).
- How can we prepare ourselves to meet with Him?
- How does knowing that keeping your covenants makes you a “peculiar treasure” influence the way you live?
Journal Entry

Seek the Lord Early (Children’s #108)

Discussion

- One of the commandments is about the Sabbath Day.
- How should we behave on the Sabbath Day?
- The way we act on the Sabbath is a representation of how much we value our covenants with the Lord.
- President Nelson once asked, “What sign will you give to the Lord to show your love for Him?”

Follow the Prophet (Children’s #110)

Discussion
- While Moses was in the mountain, speaking with the Lord, the Israelites decided to build a golden idol and worship it. Why would they do this?
- How did Moses react when he saw them worshipping false idols?
- Why was the Israelites’ sin so serious? How can I keep myself from having false idols in my life?
- What did Moses say to the Lord in chapter 33?
- While the Israelites’ sin was serious, this story also includes a message of God’s mercy and forgiveness.
- What helps us remain on God’s path—and return to it if we have strayed?

I Love to See the Temple (Children’s #95)
Scripture
Exodus 34:1–4; Joseph Smith Translation of Exodus 34:1–2
Discussion
- When the people couldn’t keep their covenants, Moses broke the tablets where he had written down God’s law.
- He went back up to the mountain and came back down with a different law, called the Law of Moses.
- The first law included the Melchezidek Priesthood, but the people were not ready for this “higher” law. So the second law, known as the lesser law, was administered by the Aaronic Priesthood (“lesser” priesthood) to prepare the Israelites to eventually live the higher law.
- Baptism is done by the Aaronic Priesthood, and our temple covenants are done by the Melchezidek Priesthood. Baptism prepares us to make temple covenants.
- How can we prepare to make covenants and truly keep them?
Journal Entry
What can I do to prepare to go to the temple?
