Family Home Evening for Come Follow Me 4/6 for Kids

Song

Reverently and Meekly Now (Hymns #185)

Scripture

Exodus 12:23

Lesson

  • This week, we are talking about how Moses will help the Israelites escape from Egypt. One of the the things that happened before the escape is something called the Passover. We will talk more about it this week, but for now, we are going to talk some of the symbols in it.
  • The lamb’s blood represents Christ’s sacrifice.
  • What can we do to have symbols of Christ in our home?
  • Try some bitter herbs (horseradish or parsley) and some unleavened bread (crackers or tortillas).
  • Talk about those symbols as well and what they meant for the Israelites (captivity and haste) and what they may mean for us. (Use the chart for this week in Come Follow Me to help guide the discussion.)

Activity

Make a poster or chart that compares symbols of the Passover to Easter.

Treat

Have a Passover dessert.

He Died That We Might Live Again (Children’s #65)

Scripture

Exodus 12:1–42

Discussion

  • The only way for the Israelites to be spared from the tenth plague, described in Exodus 11:4–5, was to precisely follow the instructions the Lord gave to Moses in Exodus 12, a ritual known as the Passover.
  • The Passover teaches us through symbols that just as the Lord delivered the Israelites from bondage in Egypt, He can also deliver us from the bondage of sin.
  • Go over the symbols done during FHE (or do them if you didn’t do FHE this week).
  • What are symbols of Christ in our everyday lives? (i/e: a pencil can erase mistakes, like the Atonement erases our sins when we repent.)

Journal Entry

Make a list of symbols of Christ from the world around you.

Activity

Ten Plagues dominoes

Friday Devotional

Song

The Sacrament (Children’s #72)

Scripture

Exodus 12:14–17, 24–2713:1–16

Discussion

  • The Savior wanted the Israelites to always remember that He had delivered them, even after their captivity became a distant memory.
  • This is why He commanded them to observe the Passover feast each year.
  • Today, we take the sacrament to represent our baptismal covenants. How is the Passover similar to the sacrament? How are they different?

Journal Entry

What do I remember when I take the sacrament?
