Family Home Evening for Come Follow Me 1/4 for Kids
Song
Mary’s Lullaby (Children’s #44)
Scripture
Lesson
- Watch the video “The Boy Jesus” (or read it together).
- Now read Luke 2:49. Mary was worried about Jesus, but Jesus knew it was more important to do “His Father’s work.”
- Read Moses 1:39 and discuss what exactly the Father’s work is.
- How was JEsus doing His “Father’s business” by being in the temple?
Activity
Write down some ways your family can participate in the Father’s business and placing them in a jar. During the coming week, when your family is looking for ways to do Heavenly Father’s work, they can select ideas from the jar. Plan a time on Sunday when you will share your experiences.

Devotionals for Come Follow Me 1/4 for Kids
Remember that these are guidelines for you to use in your daily Come, Follow Me 1/4 devotionals with your children! Please don’t feel as though you have to use every single question, journal entry, or activity. Just make sure you look at the activity in advance so you can gather any materials they may require.
Here is a general outline for each devotional for Come Follow Me 1/4:
- Start by singing the song together and saying a prayer.
- Read the scripture together, then your family can have a discussion using the questions/comments provided.
- Copy the journal entries into a spiral notebook. The child or the parent can write the question at the top, after which the child can write or draw an answer.
- Have fun together doing the activity as a family!
Modifications for older children for Come, Follow Me 1/4 daily devotionals:
- Explore the footnotes for each of the scriptures listed in Come, Follow Me 1/4.
- Ask additional discussion questions found in the Personal Study section of Come, Follow Me – For Home and Church: New Testament 2027 for Come Follow Me 1/4.
- Instead of answering the journal entry with a drawing, you can create a study journal (a simple spiral notebook will work) to answer the question with a few sentences or paragraphs, depending on the child’s age.
- Here are some ideas for marking your scriptures.

- When Jesus was born, there wasn’t any room for them in an inn, so they had to sleep in a barn.
- What if you had to give up the home you were in right now to go live in a barn? This is an example of how Jesus was humble.

“When Joseph Went to Bethlehem” (Children’s #38)

Discussion
- When Jesus was born and the Wise Men came to look for him, they asked King Herod (a wicked man) where to find Jesus. Herod was afraid that the new baby Jesus would make it so he wouldn’t be king anymore.
- The Wise Men wouldn’t go back tell Herod where to find Jesus, so Herod tried to kill ALL of the babies. An angel came and told Joseph to take Mary and Jesus away to Egypt.
- Parents can receive revelation to protect their families. (Perhaps share a personal experience of a time that inspiration kept someone safe.)
- We won’t always see an angel, but the Holy Ghost will help keep us safe. We need to be obedient to the commandments so we can hear the still, small voice of the Spirit.

Use Sundays for a time of reflection; share what you discussed that day in each of your classes. Did you learn anything new or hear a different perspective about what you studied this week?

Take a few minutes to talk about what parts of Sacrament Meeting you felt like were meant for you.
