Monday Devotional

Song

Holy Places (Hymns For Home and Church #1026)

Scripture

Exodus 35-36

Discussion

  • Last week we briefly mentioned the Tabernacle, which was a temple the Israelites built to carry around with them as they journeyed through the wilderness.
  • Now we are going to learn more about the Tabernacle. Note that the Israelites were eager to build and offer sacrifices at it.
  • As we read chapters 35–40 over the next several days, look for the things the Lord asked His people to place in the tabernacle, and ponder what these items could represent and what they suggest to you about increasing in holiness. Make a table in your journal.

Journal Entry

Here is an example of the table from Come Follow Me:

What object did you find? What can this represent?
Ark of the covenant (Exodus 37:1–940:20–21) (See Exodus 25:20–22; Guide to the Scriptures, “Ark of the Covenant”)
Altar of incense (Exodus 40:26–27; see also Exodus 30:1, 6–8) (See Revelation 8:3–4)
Candlestick or lampstand (Exodus 37:17–24) (See Matthew 5:14–16John 8:12)

The Sacrament (Children’s #72)

Scripture

Leviticus 1:1–4; 3 Nephi 9:19–20

Discussion

  • Much of the book of Leviticus may seem strange to us—animal sacrifices, rituals involving blood and water, and laws governing minute details of life.
  • But these rituals and laws were meant to teach principles that are familiar—repentance, holiness, and the Savior’s Atonement.
  • They were all symbols. What rituals do we have today that are symbols?
  • Instead of sacrificing animals, what does the Lord ask us to give now? How can we do that?

Journal Entry

Make a list of our ordinances today and their symbolisms.

Activity

The Commandments (Children’s #112)
