Dinosaur Birthday Party

Plan the perfect dinosaur birthday party! Here are fun dino party food, games, and more ideas to make your child’s celebration unforgettable.

Turning five is a big deal, and what better way to celebrate than with a dinosaur birthday party? If your child loves stomping, roaring, and pretending to explore the prehistoric world, a dinosaur-themed party is a fun and memorable way to mark this exciting milestone.

When our little one turned five, dinosaurs were the clear favorite. Everything was dinosaurs—books, toys, pajamas, and of course lots of loud dinosaur roars around the house. So planning a dinosaur birthday party felt like the perfect way to celebrate. And honestly, it ended up being one of the most fun parties we’ve hosted.

The great thing about a dinosaur party is that it doesn’t have to be complicated. With a few creative decorations, some simple games, and a couple of themed snacks, you can turn your home or backyard into a prehistoric adventure that kids will absolutely love. Five-year-olds have incredible imaginations, and it doesn’t take much to help them feel like they’ve stepped into a dinosaur world.

We focused on activities that were simple, active, and easy for young kids to understand. Things like Dinosaur Bingo, other stomp-worthy games, and hands-on activities kept everyone engaged and laughing the whole time. And of course, there were plenty of dinosaur decorations and themed treats to tie everything together.

In this post, I’ll share the ideas we used to put together a fun dinosaur birthday party for a five-year-old—from decorations and games to food and party favors. If you’re planning a dinosaur-themed celebration for your little dino lover, hopefully these ideas will help make your party just as fun and memorable.

Food for a Dinosaur Birthday Party

We had a lot of fun (and VERY easy) dinosaur themed food at this birthday party. You can flip through these pictures, and I have a list of what they are here:

Instead of a traditional birthday cake, our son opted for Dirt Cake in individual cups with a toy dinosaur on the top of each.

Dinosaur Party Decorations

Our decorations for the dinosaur birthday party were pretty simple. We just used some tablecloths, balloons, and streamers.

There were also dinosaur plates and napkins that we used.

On the table, we placed a giant inflatable T-rex.

Dinosaur Birthday Party Games and Activities

We had a lot of fun at our dinosaur birthday party! I had several games and activities for the kids to do.

When kids first arrived at the party, I gave them their dinosaur name using this printout from Usborne and putting them on a nametag sticker.

While we waited for other children to arrive, the kids put together dinosaur puzzles.

We then built dinosaur skeletons using q-tip cotton swabs and these free dinosaur printables.

Next we played Dinosaur Bingo using Skittles and Dot Markers.

At the end of the party, we had a Dinosaur Egg Pinata.

Dino Party Goody Bags

When the kids went home, we sent them with fun goody bags. Here is what we filled these dinosaur bags with:

Other Dinosaur Party Ideas

I had some other ideas of activities we could have done at our dino birthday party, but we simply didn’t have enough time to do them all.

Dinosaur Dig

Dinosaur Playdoh Mats

Dinosaur Egg Hunt

Dinosaur Scavenger Hunt

Frozen Dinosaur Eggs

Dinosaur Yoga
