When one of our sons turned eight years old, he couldn’t decide between a Pokemon birthday party or a Minecraft birthday party, so we decided to do both!
I found a bunch of ideas on Pinterest for both Pokemon and Minecraft birthday parties, and I did some picking and choosing and combined them all into one epic birthday party.
At the beginning of the party, we gave each kid these goody bags that they could use for the fun things they got, like the Pokemon cards and the catapults.
Pokemon Birthday Party Games and Activities
Most of the birthday party activities and games we did had a Pokemon theme. The cake was also Pokemon, as well as the pizza.
Here is a list of activities we did, along with links for where I got the ideas. We did the Minecraft swords first so there was time to dry. I recommended to parents that they cover the swords with modge podge.
- Painting Minecraft swords – we used this acrylic paint and then this large pack of brushes.
- Pin the Tail on Pikachu
- Punch the Pokeball – the prizes inside were Pokemon cards with more of the mini figurines that topped the cake. We used these red cups and this tissue paper.
- Pikachu pinata (purchased at Party City)
- Shooting Pokeballs – we purchased these ping-pong balls and used sharpies to turn them into Pokeballs, and then we made this catapult
Minecraft Birthday Party Food (with free printable)
Almost all of the birthday party snacks were Minecraft themed, as you can see from these pictures. Below the slideshow is a list of each food item that was purchased and what Minecraft item it represented.
- Red gatorade: Potion of Healing (get the free printable here)
- Pretzel sticks: sticks
- Green rock candy: emeralds
- Blue rock candy: diamonds
- Mini Chips Ahoy: cookies
- Twizzler bites: TNT
- Mini Oreos: coal
- Hot Tamales: red stone
- Hershey’s Nuggets: ingots
- Swedish Fish: salmon
- Sour Patch watermelon: glistering melon
The cake was inspired by this Minecraft cake here, and then topped with tiny Pokemon figurines. We used rice krispie treats as the base, with chocolate frosting on blue jello. We made the “grass” by using green food coloring to dye coconut flakes.
The pizza was a Costco pizza that we topped with pepperoni on one the top and sliced black olives for the center.
The table decorations were a mix of both Pokemon and Minecraft themes. Here is a list of what we used, along with any corresponding links to easily get them:
We also put the pinata on the table, as well as a bunch of Pokemon stuffies that the kids already had.
