Family Home Evening for Come Follow Me 12/7

The Thirteenth Article of Faith

Moroni 7:12–19

  • Have everyone go on a scavenger hunt to find 2-3 things that bring them joy.
  • Do these things bring us temporary joy or long-term joy?
  • Moroni taught that we should lay hold upon things that invite us to do good and love God and others.
  • What things should we focus on?
  • What things should we let go?

Take turns thinking of something you like and then thinking of a better and best version of it.

Scripture of the Week for Come Follow Me 12/7

Work on memorizing this scripture during the week for Come Follow Me 12/7: Moroni 7:47

But charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him.

Here are some ideas for marking your scriptures.

Monday Devotional

Choose the Right (Hymns #239)

Moroni 7:12–20

  • We are now almost at the end of the Book of Mormon. Before Moroni tells us his last words, though, he wants to tell us about some important things he learned in letters from his father Mormon. We will study those letters this week.
  • There are so many different ideas in the world. How can we tell which ones are right or wrong? What does Mormon say in these verses?
  • Talk about some experiences you have had as a family or individually and point out how to tell the difference.

I Pledge Myself to Love the Right (Children’s #161)

Moroni 7:20–48

  • After teaching about how to distinguish between good and evil, Mormon asked a question that seems relevant today: “How is it possible [to] lay hold upon every good thing?”
  • The question is answered in the verses we’ll read – what is the answer?

Wednesday Devotional

Love One Another (Hymns #308)

Moroni 7:44–48

  • President Dallin H. Oaks observed: “The reason charity never fails and the reason charity is greater than even the most significant acts of goodness … is that charity, ‘the pure love of Christ’ (Moro. 7:47), is not an act but a condition or state of being. … Charity is something one becomes”
  • What is charity? How can I have charity?
  • Why can’t you have charity without faith or hope?

How Dear to God Are Little Children (Children’s #180)

Moroni 9:9

  • This is an extremely heavy lesson, and what’s appropriate varies depending on age and experiences of each child.
  • You may want to simplify this lesson to explaining about age-appropriate behaviors and how a child’s body is their own.
  • Use this chart to guide what would be appropriate to discuss with your child.
  • **Please do NOT skip this lesson because it may be uncomfortable for you. It is extremely important to have these kinds of conversations with your children.**

These object lessons are useful in explaining to children. (Don’t worry, they’re not about wadded up dollar bills or chewed up gum. #3 fits perfectly with Elder Scott’s quote in this section of the Come Follow Me 12/7 lessons.

Nearer, My God, to Thee (Hymns #100)

Moroni 8:16–17, 9:25–26

  • After describing the wickedness he had seen, Mormon told his son not to grieve.
  • What impresses you about Mormon’s message of hope?
  • What does it mean to you for Christ to “lift [you] up”?
  • How can Christ help you things feel really awful?
