- We talked about the Law of Consecration, when people were asked to give what they had to the Church, and then the Church divided everything up and gave people back what they needed.
- The people had stewardship over the parts they got back – that means they were responsible for taking care of it and treating it well.
- We don’t have the Law of Consecration today, but we are often given stewardship over different things. A Primary teacher has stewardship over their class. A parent has stewardship over children. The bishop has stewardship over their ward.
- What do we have stewardship over?
- President Spencer W. Kimball explained: “In the Church a stewardship is a sacred spiritual or temporal trust for which there is accountability. Because all things belong to the Lord, we are stewards over our bodies, minds, families, and properties. A faithful steward is one who exercises righteous dominion, cares for his own, and looks to the poor and needy.”

- The Saints didn’t want to be tricked, so they asked how they could know if something was from God or from Satan.
- What does the Lord say in these verses?
- What does it mean to be “contrite”? (Repentant, sorrowful, regretful.) How can we be contrite in our prayers?

Sunday Kids Activities for Come Follow Me 5/26
- Do this week’s free activity pages from Color Me Christian (or do them in the workbook if you purchased it from Amazon).
- Look at this map of Missouri and Ohio to see the places the Saints were gathering. Then look it up on Google Maps and calculate how long it would take to walk, ride a bike, and drive to each location.
- Read, watch, or listen to “Welfare Services: The Gospel in Action,” Ensign, Nov. 1977, 78.
- Watch Chapter 21: A Revelation to Settle in Missouri: May–June 1831 to see what was going on with the Saints during this time.
- Sing several of the hymns that William W. Phelps wrote. Talk about why he might have written those words.
- Show the children an example of a pattern (such as a pattern for sewing clothes or making something), and talk about why patterns are helpful. Read Doctrine and Covenants 52:15–18 and talk about the Lord’s pattern. Then make something from a pattern.
- Watch the video “The Law of Consecration.”

- “Ellie Helps Clean the Church” (December 2018 Friend). A story of a young girl who helps her family clean the church building. Includes a simple activity.
- Read “A Banner of Faithfulness” (February 2010 Friend). Talk about how he could have asked to be removed from his calling, but he didn’t. Sometimes our stewardships are difficult, but the Lord will always help us fulfill them.
- Read “He Said He Would Help” (March 2010 Friend). Discuss how this home teacher fulfilled his stewardship.
- Read “Prayer Power” (March 2019 Liahona and Friend). Talk about how it’s important to pray for those who have stewardship over us. You can also read “Sustaining Bishop Sheets” (February 2007 Liahona and Friend) for more ideas.
- Talk about how difficult it must have been for people to move to Kirtland. Read “A Gathering of Saints” (March 1993 Friend) to understand more of what they went through.
- “Gathering to Zion” (July 2007 Friend and Liahona). Cut out pictures of pioneers and put them on a map based on how they got to Zion.
