Ham and Cheese Roll-up Biscuits Topped with Cheese Sauce

These ham and cheese roll-up biscuits make a perfect dinner for the entire family! Topped with hot homemade cheese sauce, this delicious recipe will make your mouth water and your tummy full!

This recipe is one of our favorites! It’s made from scratch, and just thinking about it makes my mouth water.

Hey y’all, Tiffany here with an amazing dinner recipe! I ate this all the time growing up, and it’s still one of my favorite dinners whenever I go to visit my parents.

Ham & Cheese Roll-up Biscuits

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • ½ tsp cream of tartar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • shredded cheese
  • diced ham

Stir together flour, baking powder, sugar, cream of tartar, and salt. Next, cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs

Make a well in the center and add the milk all at once. Then stir just till dough clings together.

Knead gently on a lightly floured surface for 10 to 12 strokes. Roll or pat to ½ inch thickness.  Sprinkle on ham and cheese.  Cut with a 2 ½ biscuit cutter, dipping cutter in flour between cuts.

Transfer to an ungreased baking sheet. Bake in 450* oven for 10-12 minutes or till golden. Serve warm. Makes 10-12 biscuits.

Cheese sauce

When your biscuits have about 15 minutes left in the oven, start making the cheese sauce.

 

     

  

When the biscuits come of out the oven, serve with a ladle of cheese sauce on top.

  • 8 tbsp flour
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1/2 tbsp chicken boulian or flavor base
  • grated cheese

Instructions

  2. Cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs
  3. Make a well in the center and add the milk all at once.
  4. Stir just till dough clings together.
  5. Knead gently on a lightly floured surface for 10 to 12 strokes.
  6. Roll or pat to ½ inch thickness. 
  7. Sprinkle on ham and cheese. 
  8. Cut with a 2 ½ biscuit cutter, dipping cutter in flour between cuts.
  9. Transfer to an ungreased baking sheet.
  10. Bake in 450* oven for 10-12 minutes or till golden.

Cheese Sauce

  1. Melt butter on medium temperature stove.
  2. Mix in the flour to create a very thick paste.
  3. Add milk and stir constantly (do not walk away at all or it will burn on the bottom).
  4. Continue stirring and as the sauce thickens, add the boulion.
  5. Keep stirring until all lumps are out and sauce begins to boil.
  6. Continue stirring constantly while sauce boils for at least 1-2 minutes (be careful of splashes).
  7. Then add as much grated cheese as desired.
  8. Serve biscuits with a ladle of cheese sauce on top.
