Monday Devotional

Song

The Books in the Book of Mormon (Children’s #119)

Scripture

Ether 12:1-5

Discussion

  • We are now finishing the book of Ether. Ether was the last prophet of the Jaredites.
  • He had many prophecies, and he saw the destruction of the entire civilization because of their wickedness.
  • He saw Christ’s time, and he also saw our day, in addition to telling the Jaredite kings what would happen if they didn’t repent.
  • The Jaredites were split into two countries, who often went to war with each other. When the kings were righteous, the people prospered, but over time they kept getting more and more wicked.
  • This week we will study a lot about Ether’s words because they apply to us.

Journal Entry

Who can you share the gospel with this week? How?

Activity

Take turns pretending to be Ether telling the kings and the people that they need to choose the right.

Tuesday Devotional

Song

Discussion

  • Moroni interrupts here and talks to us a little bit, too, about the importance of Ether’s writings.
  • What does Moroni say about faith in these verses?
  • He gives lots of examples about faith. For each example, discuss teh following questions:
    • What did these people hope for?
    • How was their faith tested?
    • What happened because of their faith?

Journal Entry

How can I increase my faith?

  • There are some wonderful promises in these verses. What do they teach about hope?
  • Look up “hope” in the Guide to the Scriptures.
  • Hope helps us the way an anchor helps a boat.
  • What do we need to do to have this hope?
  • What are some other words for hope? What is the opposite of hope?

Journal Entry

What should I hope for?

Activity

When Faith Endures (Hymns #128)

  • Do we worry about things that we aren’t good at? What should we do?

Journal Entry

Friday Devotional

Song

Follow the Prophet (Children’s #110)

Scripture

Ether 13:13–22chapter headings for 14–15

Discussion

  • The last two kings in Ether’s time were Shiz and Coriantumr.
  • Ether told Coriantumr that if he would repent, they would be spared. But Coriantumr had too much pride and anger. Thousands and thousands of people died in the war between the two.
  • Coriantumr killed Shiz, and he was the only person left alive of the Jaredites. He is the same one we read about King Benjamin’s people meeting. That’s how we got the writings of the Jaredites.
  • What are the consequences of rejecting the prophets?
  • What happens when the Spirit of the Lord stops being with people? (Ether 15:19)
  • What might the Lord want you to learn from these accounts?

Journal Entry

How can I follow the prophet?
