Family Home Evening for Come Follow Me 6/16 for Kids
Song
Repentance (Children’s #98)
Scripture
Lesson
- Try serving tonight’s treat to the kids on plates that are covered in dirt, dried food, etc. Make them very obviously dirty and disgusting.
- When the kids reject the plates, wash them and re-serve the treat. (Don’t use a new clean plate – it will mess up the object lesson!)
- While eating your treat on the newly-cleaned plates, read the scripture. Focus on the Lord’s words to William McLellin: “You are clean, but not all.” What does this mean?
- Our spirits are like this – even if we’re good people and make some good choices, any sin is like a dirty plate.
- Repentance is what gets the plates clean. Just like a plate needs to be washed every time it gets dirty (as opposed to once a week), we need to repent every time we mess up. And like the plate gets clean every time, we can be forgiven every time.
Activity
Let the kids wash the dishes by hand again after having the treat. Add some Dawn dish soap to make the water very bubbly and fun.
Treat
Your children’s favorite dessert/treat. If they don’t have one, ice cream works great.
Scripture of the Week for Come Follow Me / for Kids
Work on memorizing this scripture with your children during the week for Come Follow Me 6/16: Doctrine and Covenants 64:9–10
Wherefore, I say unto you, that ye ought to forgive one another; for he that forgiveth not his brother his trespasses standeth condemned before the Lord; for there remaineth in him the greater sin.
I, the Lord, will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men.

Monday Devotional
Song
Help Me, Dear Father (Children’s #99)
Scripture
Doctrine and Covenants 64:1–11
Discussion
- In August 1831, several elders were traveling back to Kirtland after surveying the land of Zion in Missouri as directed by the Lord. It was not a pleasant journey. The travelers—Joseph Smith, Oliver Cowdery, Sidney Rigdon, Ezra Booth, and others—were hot and weary, and tensions soon turned into quarrels. It may have seemed like building Zion, a city of love, unity, and peace, was going to take a long time.
- What does the Lord say in these verses about repentance and forgiveness?
- Why do you think the Lord commands us “to forgive all”?
- Can you think of a time that you have had to ask someone for forgiveness? What about a time that someone has asked you for forgiveness?
- What should we do when someone hurts us but doesn’t ask for forgiveness at all?
Journal Entry
How can I be more forgiving today?
Activity
Tuesday Devotional

- What does the Lord say in Doctrine and Covenants 64:31–34 to those who are tired from doing good things and making right choices?
- What does it mean to give your “heart and a willing mind” to God?

Scripture
Doctrine and Covenants 64:37–43

- How is Zion, or the Lord’s church, like an ensign to the world?
- How can you help the Church be an Ensign wherever you live?
Journal Entry
What can I do today to help the Church be an Ensign?

Thursday Devotional
Song
When He Comes Again (Children’s #82)
Scripture
Discussion
- Matthew described John the Baptist as one who cried, “Prepare ye the way of the Lord.” In Doctrine and Covenants 65, the Lord uses similar language to describe His latter-day work.
- What similarities do you see between what John the Baptist did (see Matthew 3:1–12 if you need a reminder) and what the Lord wants us to do today?
- How can we be like John the Baptist and prepare for the Second Coming of the Lord?
Journal Entry
What can I do today to help others prepare for the Second Coming?
Activity
Put together a Second Coming suitcase (just look at the image to see what should be included)
Friday Devotional
Song
If with All Your Hearts (Children’s #15)
Scripture
Discussion
- Shortly after joining the Church, William E. McLellin asked Joseph Smith to reveal God’s will for him. Joseph didn’t know it, but William had five personal questions he was hoping the Lord would answer through His Prophet. We don’t know what William’s questions were, but we do know that the revelation addressed to him, now Doctrine and Covenants 66, answered each question to William’s “full and entire satisfaction”
- What did the Lord know about William McLellin and the concerns and intents of his heart. Do you think He knows the same things about you?
- What things are in your heart?
Journal Entry
Is there anything in my heart that I should change?
