The secret to making these Father’s Day cookies fluffy and light is the sour cream. The ingredients for the recipe include sugar, butter, eggs, sour cream, vanilla, flour, salt, and baking soda.
Ingredients
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 5 cups flour
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 2 tsp. baking soda
Directions
Cream together:
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup butter
- 2 eggs
Add in:
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Mix together and then slowly stir in:
- 5 cups flour
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 2 tsp. baking soda
Be careful not to over-beat! Roll out on a floured surface to 3/4″. Cut the rolled dough into circles or use cookie cutters to cut these sour cream sugar cookies with cream cheese frosting into whichever shapes you’d like!
Bake at 425* for 5 minutes. Allow to cool completely before frosting.

Ingredients
- 1 cube (1/2 cup) butter
- 8 oz softened cream cheese
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/4 cup milk
- up to 5 cups powdered sugar
Directions
Beat together:
- 1 cube (1/2 cup) butter
- 1 pack (8 oz) softened cream cheese
Add:
- 1 tsp vanilla
Alternate adding these items while beating:
- 1/4 total cup milk
- Up to 5 cups of powdered sugar
You need to alternate adding sugar and milk so it doesn’t clump! Keep on beating until smooth and at the desired texture. If mix is too soft or runny, just add a bit of powdered sugar. If it is too sticky or thick, and a tiny bit of milk.

Ingredients
- 2 cups sugar
- 3 cubes butter (1 1/2 cups)
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup sour cream
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 5 cups flour
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 pack (8 oz) softened cream cheese
- 1/4 cup milk
- 5 cups of powdered sugar
Instructions
Cookies
- Cream together the sugar, 1 cup (2 cubes) butter, and eggs.
- Add in sour cream and 1 tsp vanilla
- Mix together
- Slowly stir in flour, salt, and baking soda
- Be careful not to over-beat!
- Roll our onto a floured surface to 3/4" thickness.
- Cut into circles or use cookie cutters.
- Bake at 425 degrees for 5 minutes. Allow to cool completely before decorating.
Frosting
- Beat together 1 cube butter and cream cheese
- Add 1 tsp vanilla
- Alternate adding powdered sugar and milk while beating
- You need to alternate or else it will clump up
- Keep on beating until smooth and at the desired texture
- If mix is too runny, just add a bit of powdered sugar. If it is too thick, add a tiny bit of milk.
