Peanut Butter Cheerios Recipe: Easy Homemade Kids Snack
These easy homemade peanut butter cheerios are the ultimate kids snack! Help your children fill up with a protein-laden after school snack with homemade peanut butter cheerios.
These homemade peanut butter cheerios are one of my all-time favorite snacks, right up there with no-bake cookies. I could eat them by the handful!
My mom used to make this recipe for peanut butter cheerios when I was growing up as a kid for us to eat when we came home from school as an after-school snack, and they still bring back all the feels for me.
Whenever my mom comes to visit, she always make up a large batch of these peanut butter cheerios for my kids and myself. My kids are a bit on the smaller side (since my Crohn’s disease makes nutrition during pregnancy difficult), and their ADHD medication can repress appetite (did you know there are 7 types of ADHD??), so we’re always looking for food to help them put on healthy fats. Peanut butter cheerios are a great way to do that!
Ingredients for Peanut Butter Cheerios
Here are the ingredients you need for these easy Peanut Butter Cheerios:
- 20 cups of Cheerios (although off-brand works as well). This comes out to about one 18 oz box of Cheerios.
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup light karo syrup
- 1⅟2 cups creamy peanut butter (a little more than 3/4 of a 16 oz jar of peanut butter)
- 2 tsp vanilla
Directions for Peanut Butter Cheerios
Put Cheerios into a very large mixing bowl and set aside.
Combine sugar and karo syrup into a small pan.
Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.
Stir in peanut butter and vanilla until thoroughly mixed.
Pour entire peanut butter mixture over Cheerios. Mix to coat evenly.
Allow to cool, stirring occasionally so you don’t have massive clumps.
Enjoy! No need to store in the fridge; room temperature is fine for about a week. I like to store it in gallon ziploc bags.
