Remember that these are guidelines for you to use in your daily Come, Follow Me 10/6 devotionals with your children! Please don’t feel as though you have to use every single question, journal entry, or activity. Just make sure you look at the activity in advance so you can gather any materials they may require.
Here is a general outline for each devotional for Come Follow Me 10/6:
- Start by singing the song together and saying a prayer
- Read the scripture together, then your family can have a discussion using the questions/comments provided.
- Copy the journal entries into a spiral notebook. The child or the parent can write the question at the top, after which the child can write or draw an answer.

Discussion
- Joseph Smith and other Church leaders started a bank where many Saints kept their money.
- Some of the Saints wanted to get a lot of money. One man who worked at the bank was not honest. He stole some money.
- Joseph Smith told other men to take good care of the money, but the bank continued to have problems. Soon it had to be closed because all the money was gone. This was a hard time for many banks in the United States, and many others were also closed.
- Many of the Saints were angry because they couldn’t get their money back. Some of them said it was Joseph Smith’s fault that the bank closed. Some of Joseph’s best friends said bad things about him. Some people even wanted to kill him.
- Some leaders of the Church were angry too. Some of them didn’t want to be members of the Church anymore. A few of them became enemies of the Church.
- Other Church leaders loved Joseph and helped him. Brigham Young was one of the good leaders. He told the Saints that he knew Joseph was a prophet of God.
- What do we learn about sustaining the prophet from this story?

- As Joseph Smith and others worried about these debts and considered ways to pay them, they traveled to Salem, Massachusetts, perhaps because it was rumored that some money had been abandoned in a house there.
- The Lord promised in this section that there would be treasures in Salem.
- Although no money was found in Salem, the converts that came from later missionary efforts there were part of the fulfillment of the Lord’s promise.
- How does this show that the Lord “orders all things for our good.”
- What does “as fast as ye are able to receive them? help you learn about Heavenly Father?

- The Quorum of the Twelve was not having unity because of all the problems in the Church.
- Thomas B. Marsh, then President of the Quorum of the Twelve, was concerned, and he came from Missouri to Ohio, seeking counsel from the Prophet.
- This section is the Lord’s response to that.
- What does it mean for the Lord to lead us by the hand?
- How does the Lord lead us “by the hand,” even though He isn’t physically with us?
- Why do we need the Lord to lead us? When have we felt the Lord leading us?

, 54–60. - Play a game that involves leading each other “by the hand” (such as an obstacle course).
- Read President Nelson’s talk “Peacemakers Needed” and talk about the importance of creating peace, not contention.
- Watch or read “Chapter 41: Trouble in Kirtland” (Doctrine and Covenants Stories, 158–60)
- “More Treasures Than One,” Revelations in Context, 229–34.
- Read the remainder of D&C 112 that was not read in devotionals and discuss the verses together as a family.
- Do this Always Choose the Right activity as a family.
