Devotionals for Come Follow Me 2/3 for Kids
Remember that these are guidelines for you to use in your daily Come, Follow Me 2/3 devotionals with your children! Please don’t feel as though you have to use every single question, journal entry, or activity. Just make sure you look at the activity in advance so you can gather any materials they may require.
Here is a general outline for each devotional for Come Follow Me 2/3:
- Start by singing the song together and saying a prayer
- Read the scripture together, then your family can have a discussion using the questions/comments provided.
- Copy the journal entries into a spiral notebook. The child or the parent can write the question at the top, after which the child can write or draw an answer.
- Have fun together doing the activity as a family!
Modifications for older children for Come, Follow Me 2/3 daily devotionals:
- Explore the footnotes for each of the scriptures listed in Come, Follow Me 2/3
- Ask additional discussion questions found in the Personal Study section of Come, Follow Me – For Home and Church: Book of Mormon 2025 for Come Follow Me 2/3
- Instead of answering the journal entry with a drawing, you can create a study journal (a simple spiral notebook will work) to answer the question with a few sentences or paragraphs, depending on the child’s age.
- Here are some ideas for marking your scriptures.
Monday Devotional
Song
“Search, Ponder, and Pray” (Children’s #109)
Scripture
Discussion
- Show the Gospel Art Picture: “Joseph Smith Translating the Book of Mormon”
- In the fall of 1828, a young schoolteacher named Oliver Cowdery took a teaching job in Manchester, New York, and stayed with the family of Lucy and Joseph Smith Sr.
- He heard about Joseph Smith and wanted to learn about him and the Book of Mormon. He prayed about it and received revelation that it was true.
- Oliver eventually took over helping translate the plates after Martin Harris lost the 116 pages.
Journal Entry
How can I know the Joseph Smith story is true?
Activity
Tuesday Devotional
Song
Prayer Is the Soul’s Sincere Desire (Hymns #145)
Scripture
Discussion
- Oliver Cowdrey wanted to translate like Joseph Smith did. Joseph asked the Lord in prayer, and section 6 was the answer to that prayer.
- What does the Lord tell Oliver about desires? Does this apply to our desires?
Journal Entry
What things do I desire?
Activity
Wednesday Devotional
Song
“The Holy Ghost” (Children’s #105)
Scripture
Discussion
- The answer for Oliver Cowdrey was that he would not be allowed to translate.
- Yesterday we talked about how the first revelation discussed desires. What else does the Lord say about desires in this section?
- We may desire something, but if we are afraid, it will block our ability to get our righteous desires.
Journal Entry
How can I have more faith in the Savior?
Activity
Coloring Page: “Jesus Can Help Me Do Hard Things” (October 2019 Liahona and Friend)
Thursday Devotional
Song
“The Still Small Voice” (Children’s #106)
Scripture
Discussion
- Part of the reason Oliver was not able to translate was because he wasn’t used to receiving revelation through the Spirit.
- What do we learn in these verses about revelations from Heavenly Father?
- How can we receive revelation and know that’s what we’re feeling?
Journal Entry
When I have felt the Spirit in the past? How did He feel?
Activity
Coloring page: “I choose to fill my life with things that invite the Spirit” (August 2012 Friend)
Friday Devotional
Song
“Come, Come, Ye Saints” (Hymns #30)
Scripture
Doctrine and Covenants 6:18–21, 29–37
Discussion
- Even though Joseph had already experienced “difficult circumstances” while doing the Lord’s work (Doctrine and Covenants 6:18), he and Oliver likely had no idea how difficult those circumstances would become over the next several years.
- But the Lord knew, and He knows what trials are in your future too. These verses were for Joseph and Oliver, and they are for us, too.
- How might Joseph and Oliver have felt after hearing these words? What do you find in these verses that helps you trust the Lord?
- What does it mean to “look unto [Christ] in every thought”?
Journal Entry
How can I look unto Christ more in my life?
