I Want to Be a Missionary Now (Children’s #168)
Scripture
Doctrine and Covenants 62:3, 9
Lesson
- In June 1831, Joseph Smith held a conference with the elders of the Church in Kirtland.
- There, the Lord organized some of the elders into companionships and sent them to Jackson County, Missouri.
- The Lord was disappointed that some of the missionaries didn’t open their mouths and share the gospel when they had the chance. Why do you think they didn’t?
- We need to share our talents and testimonies with others.
Activity
Make a paper chain with parts of your testimony written on each one. Hang your testimonies around the house – look at how long they are!
Treat
Make sour cream sugar cookies and share them with someone.

Come, Come, Ye Saints (Hymns #30) last verse
Scripture
Doctrine and Covenants 60:4; 61:1–2, 36; 62:1

Activity

Help Me, Dear Father (Children’s #99) second verse
Scripture
Doctrine and Covenants 60:7; 61:1–2; 62:1
Discussion
- When we make a choice, there is always a consequence. A good choice gives a good consequence. It’s like picking up a stick – we can’t pick up one end of a stick and not pick up the other end.
- When we mess up, we might think we can’t face God.
- What did God tell Joseph and other early church leaders?
- How does this bring you comfort and peace?
Journal Entry
What good choices can I make today?
Activity
Get several popsicle sticks. Write choices on one end and consequences on the other end. (For example: eat your dinner, get dessert. Don’t clean up toys, get toys taken away.) Take turns picking up popsicle sticks.
Thursday Devotional
Song
Hum Your Favorite Hymn (Children’s #152)
Scripture
Doctrine and Covenants 63:13–23
Discussion
- Sometimes people make wrong choices. But no one wakes up one day and suddenly decides to be bad when they have always been good.
- A bad choice (a sin) usually starts when we think bad thoughts a lot of the time.
- If we leave those bad thoughts in our heads, they move into our hearts. We need to get rid of them.
- Some ways to help keep our thoughts clean is by listening to good music, watching good TV shows, having good friends, reading scriptures, saying prayers, and going to church.
- When we get a bad or wrong thought, we can do any of those things to help invite the Spirit and get the bad thought out.
Journal Entry
What things can I do when I get a bad thought?
Activity
Friday Devotional

- How do we treat our treasures?
- The Lord gives us valuable treasures – they are sacred things.
- What do these verses tell us about how we should handle sacred things?
