Teach your kid to learn to read with free printable flashcards for Fry’s First 100 Sight Words made for children who are beginner readers.
Hey y’all, Tiffany here with some free printable flashcards to go with Fry’s first 100 sight words!
As you know, we homeschool our kids. My oldest two began wanting to read at four years old, and after using BOB books, we moved on to sight words.
We also practiced a lot of number recognition with these 42 free printable color-by-number worksheets.
I spent a lot of time finding out what sight words would be best for my kids to learn, and Fry’s lists of sight words was the one I found to be most commonly used in public schools.
(While I did make the decision to homeschool, I do try to make sure my students are on schedule with their peers. After all, my Crohn’s Disease may make me unable to homeschool in the future.)
To help make learning sight words easier, I made this free printable with flashcards. I tried to choose a font that was similar to what my children use for their handwriting practice. Eventually we will get into fonts with “fancy” letters like ‘a’ and ‘g’, but for now I want them to learn words simply.
Here are some fun ways to practice sight words at home that you can do along with these free printable Fry’s sight words flashcards. One of my favorite ways to practice sight words is with these sight word playdough mats.
Once you’ve got the reading down, you’ll want to work on spelling! I recommend these free spelling games. If you decide you don’t want to use Fry’s sight words, then you can use these kindergarten sight words instead.
We also spend 15 minutes reading every day with these reading charts, and for my younger ones who are unable to read much, we also spend some of that time learning sight words.
We like to laminate and hole punch our flash cards. Phillip bought me the best laminator in the world, and I use it every chance I get! Once laminated, I hole punch the corner. Then I put them on a book ring. This makes it easy to take them on the go without losing any of them!
