Celebrate Valentine’s Day with these Sour Cream Valentine’s Day sugar cookies with cream cheese frosting! As the perfect Valentine’s day treat, cut them into hearts or other romantic shapes, then top with a cream cheese frosting dyed pink and red.
Hey y’all, Tiffany here.
Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been making these sour cream sugar cookies with my mom. I continued doing that as an adult in college. My mom even mailed some to me both Christmases that I was a missionary in Puerto Rico!
When Phillip and I were first married and his family came out for our December wedding, my mother-in-law tried these cookies and fell in love. After they went home, she emailed me to ask for the recipe so she could make them with my new brother-and sister-in-law. They’ve now become a family tradition in her household, too!
Everyone I’ve ever introduced to these cookies has told me that they taste so much better than traditional sugar cookies – and they’re right. Try them for yourself and see!
The best part about these sour cream sugar cookies is they work for any holiday, not just Christmas! You just need the right cookie cutters!

Directions for Creating the Perfect Cream Cheese Frosting
Begin the Creaming Process:
In a mixing bowl, start by beating together 1 cube (1/2 cup) of butter and 1 pack (8 oz) of softened cream cheese. This dynamic duo forms the rich and creamy base for our luscious cream cheese frosting.
Infuse Flavor Elegantly:
Add a touch of indulgence with 1 tsp of vanilla extract. This aromatic addition improves the flavor of cream butter, making your cream cheese frosting the ideal companion for the delicious sugar cookies you’re about to create.
Perfect Harmony of Texture:
Achieve the perfect texture of royal icing by alternately adding 1/4 total cup of milk and up to 5 cups of powdered sugar. The key here is to alternate between these ingredients while beating, preventing any undesirable clumps in your frosting.
Smooth Consistency is Key:
Continue beating until the mixture reaches a smooth and desirable texture. Should you find the frosting a bit runny, introduce a bit more powdered sugar. If it leans towards thickness, a tiny bit of milk can be added to attain the perfect consistency.
