One of my favorite days of the year is Pi Day. Pi is a Greek letter of the alphabet, and it is used as a symbol in math for the ratio between the diameter of a circle and its circumference.
Basically, if you measure the circumference of a circle (the distance around, basically the perimeter) and divide it by its diameter (the length across), you will always get Pi!
Pi is about 3.14. So Pi Day is celebrated every year on March 14th (3/14, get it?). Not only is it fun to eat pies (which are round, like a circle, and Pi is all about circles), but you can bring in some education while you’re at it!
So I’ve come up with this list of fun Pi Day ideas that you can do with your kids to make this day even more fun!
Make pi accessible to all little kids by making Pi Day bracelets and bookmarks. Here is how to make them, a little bit about why pi is such a big deal, and all the learning that goes on during this activity.
